LEGAL STUDIES IN TRENTO FOR ERASMUS-SOCRATES AND FOREIGN STUDENTS

The Law Faculty offers a wide range of educational opportunities to foreign students in Trento.
The first semester is designed to ensure a gradual introduction to both the legal and linguistic aspects of Italian culture. In September, before classes start, an “Italian as second language” (ISL) intensive course will be run by CIAL ( Central Language Center). More ever a special language course, “Italian for Law” (IFL), run by CIAL, is also available. Furthermore, students may attend the “Introduction to Italian Law” course and other regular courses. Although ISL and IFL courses are not compulsory, they are strongly recommended to participants in order to increase their knowledge of Italian language as well as to obtain the required number of credits.
Several law courses taught in English by foreign visiting professors will be available in the second semester.

Italian for Law (IFL)

The specific features of the Italian legal language are presented in this course offered at CIAL.
The course will give participants an overall knowledge of the Italian legal vocabulary, which participants will need in order to follow courses taught in Italian. The course will also discuss useful instruments to assist participants studying Italian law, such as dictionary, textbooks and web-sites.
Please see http://www.unitn.it/cial/ for details of facilities for individual study available at CIAL.

Introduction to Italian Law.

The course will be taught in the first semester (10 ECTS credits, 60 hours), and will consist of eight sessions, each addressing a different area of the Italian legal system. “Introduction to Italian Law” will provide an overview of the general features of the Italian legal system, and it is therefore strongly recommended to Erasmus students in order to give them a better grasp of the language, which will facilitate their understanding of the subjects taught in other courses.

Law courses taught in English

Together with the regular courses offered by the Faculty in Italian, the second semester includes some courses taught in English. Lectures are given by visiting foreign professors and are meant to increase the legal knowledge of students in a global perspective.
